How did you become a Professional Home Organizer?    ​

I have always had the “organizing gene.” As a teenager, I was always reorganizing my mother’s kitchen. She would yell at me “Bobbie, put it back the way it was!” “But Mom, it’s so much more efficient this way!” As a young adult my friends frequently counted on me to set up their kitchen when they moved. While my husband climbed the corporate ladder, we bought and sold four homes in six years. During those years I acquired a great deal of practical experience in decluttering a home for sale and organizing a new home.

I have volunteered for Advocates for Homeless and Those in Need since 2011. For four of those years I served as Donations and Supply Chairman because AHTN recognized that I have innate organizing skills. Several of my fellow volunteers suggested that I pursue a career as a professional Home Organizer. At the same time, I was working as a companion to Seniors. I  saw that many of their homes were unsafe due to clutter. I began to declutter and organize their homes and several Seniors and their adult children also suggested that I pursue a career in professional Home Organizing.

Do you have any special certifications for Professional home organizing?

I am a member of National Association of Productivity and Organizers and operate according to their code of ethics. Membership requires on- line education and offers continuing education, seminars, and conferences.

What do you like best about being a professional organizer?

I enjoy helping people remove one of the major stressors in their lives; being disorganized. I also find a great sense of purpose in helping Seniors age in place successfully and giving their families peace of mind.

Do you work with people with hoarding disorders?

I work with compulsive buyers and individuals who are addicted to shopping. Clients who have a severe hoarding disorder and cannot part with trash require the assistance of an organizer who is certified to work with individuals with a hoarding disorder.

Do you have a team of Professional home organizers?

I work independently but team up with other professional organizers as needed or partner with junk removal services who make arrangements for a crew and rental of a dumpster. In these situations, I help my client or their family member to determine the minimal amount of possessions to keep and the junk removal service does the rest.

Do you charge for consultations?

I charge $50 for a one-hour consultation. On the day of the consultation I reserve the next few hours for you. If you are comfortable with me in your personal space we can tackle your project the same day.

What makes you unique as a professional organizer?

My strength as a home organizer is to think outside the box to utilize all of the available space to best advantage in the most cost-effective manner. I keep you focused and on task while making decluttering and organizing fun.
 

I have acquired a unique skill set from many years in retail sales of furniture, accessories, and custom window treatments. Working with interior designers, I have learned some basic home decorating principles. For many years I have moonlighted as a seamstress for formal wear shops and have developed a good eye for proportion and balance.
