Home Organizing:

Top 3 Things All My Clients Suffer From

10/15/2021

MAIL
  • You need to have a system and a routine for processing mail.
  • Process your mail daily if possible or at least twice a week.
  • Recycle junk mail immediately whether you process the mail then or later.
  • Have a container designated for junk mail in a convenient, accessible spot.
  • Purchase an organizing accessory if necessary. Amazon has a great selection
LAUNDRY
  • You need a system to keep clean clothes separate from dirty clothes.
  • Purchase several plastic rectangular clothes baskets; they hold folded laundry neatly.
  • Put two nested clothes baskets in every bedroom.
  • When you take one basket to the laundry you will still have an empty basket for dirty clothes.
  • Eliminate unnecessary steps; put dirty clothes directly in a clothes basket; no more clothes hampers.
DONATIONS
  • Put a box clearly marked for donations in a convenient location so you can gather the donations on an on-going basis.
  • As you discover a household item is no longer needed, an article of clothing no longer fits, a book you know you will not re-read, put it in the box.
  • Play “keep/toss” with each member of your household: before the holidays, before their birthday and at the change of each season.
  • Give them a heads-up that you will need 15 minutes of their time to play “keep/toss.” Set the timer, respect their time and get as much accomplished in 15 minutes as possible.
  • Schedule additional 15-minute sessions as needed.
